Martin, When I was in Hawaii, I heard that The Sand at Waikiki Beach
had to be trucked in to keep sand on the beach. Several people told me
this. What's the truth?

Interesting. The topic of dredging and such - The beautiful beach sand
(white) in Hawaii - e.g.
Waikiki - and perhaps some old and dead shells found - the sand
continues to come from the Santa Cruz mountains south west of San Jose
and South of San Francisco. The sand is very pure and white. Used in
glass and Kaiser first imported boat loads for the beach. In the sand
and the water cuts here and there - outside Scotts Valley are Sea
Shells. The sand was once
beach but not elevated hundreds of feet up due to the uplifts. So some
Hawaii finds might
be very old west coast shells.
