Marcus,  When I used to go to the Fl. Keys.  I would find both species.
I called the thiner smoother one subsp. Tenera.  The animal is usually
bright red with white tentacles and the regular one, Lima scabras animal
is all orange.  The shell is usually heavier.  Just my opion.  There
used to be a shelling spot in Marathon that had many tenera.

the same rock
