Hello everyone. After a long absence, I have rejoined the list. I
can't say for sure exactly why I left, but it had something to do with
"life".

An analysis of the fossil record (that is, the CONCH-L archives)
indicates that I first posted to the list on 19 December, 1998. I've
spent the last hour marveling at my innocent immaturity, and that it's
written in stone for the whole world to see. I don't know whether to
laugh or cry. :-)

It sure is quiet here; I expected to get a flood of messages as soon
as I subscribed. Y'all aren't suffering from the winter sadness, are
you?

Here's something to chew on. I went to archive.org and looked up my
old website, the Slit Shell Sanctuary. Does anyone still remember that
old thing? I was pleased to find they had preserved it almost
perfectly, with only a few images missing:

Seeing the old page again gave me an idea. How about I resurrect this
project, but on a somewhat grander scale? In addition to the species
database, I could have information on habitat, biology, recent news,
artwork, etc. For the database, I'm hoping I can ask some collectors
to contribute images of their specimens. Anyone interested?

Warm regards,
James
