Despite the "nice option" of hidden collectors, obviously amateur people in
this world is decreasing.

The news about the recently closed shell clubs in US and other places are a
bad sign. Some young people are beggining to collect and they will appear in
a few years, but also the actual "extra-ammount" of info (look internet and
familiars) offer excesive possibilities to allow someone to focus his
interest in only one question.

I also remember that I got the Abbott's "Compendium of seashells" when I
began to collect. It was a general reference but very useful to recognise
the mainly found species and to atract to anyone to this world. Now books
are much better, but I couldn't decide what book I should buy to begin in
this hobby, and... which price should I pay for it.
In this way I think that amateur conchology is drowning in its success.

From Lanzarote, Canary Islands, with no clubs here
