Dear Dick,

thanks very much for your help. I had checked the figure of the holotype
of Hadroocorys tosaensis (Habe and Azuma, 1959)* before posting my
request. The specimen figured by the Toba Aquarium does not match that
holotype.
Alan Beu lists O. japonica as a nomen nudum by Azuma 1960** and mentions
that Matsumoto*** has figured O. japonica in the Toba catalogue. What is
puzzling me is that the aquarium is claiming to have an image of the
/type specimen/ of O. japonica. Or is my translation of "模式標本"
incorrect?
If my understanding is correct, I would expect to see that shell listed
in one of the two catalogues of Kuroda's types. I am probably asking too
much, but is there an index of the types by the type ID? The speicmen
imaged on the website of the Toba Aquarium displays markings saying
"709a 120fms".
Since you mention the types of the Toba Aquarium specifically, where
would an author publish his description if the type is deposited in that
aquarium? Is there some sort of journal published by them?

I know that ideally I would ask all these questions to the staff of the
Toba Aquarium, but unfortunately nobody from there replied to my emails...

Thanks again and best regards,
Tilo
