Hi Scott,
I organize our study collection of Oliva first by location.
I have them separated into the following groups: Indo-Pacific, Eastern
Pacific, Eastern Atlantic and Western Atlantic/Caribbean.
These are then separated by subgenus and species.
The locality groups have enabled us to compare species and forms that
coexist in the same habitat, locality, etc. This provides a better picture
of the distribution of species, subspecies and intergrading populations.
This comparative study will enable Ed Petuch and I to have a better
understanding of the similarities and differences that will be used to
justify the existence of or the combining of species in our new work.
And yes, it will continue to change as new material becomes available.

all know, Olividae keeps
morphing and I am wondering if there is a better system. I look forward to
your ideas. I am sure
museums and major collections have a system, or they would forever be moving
shells around!
