Thank you all for the wealth of information.
It appears I am truly looking for Epitonium championi, i.e. - the Boston
Malacological Club's shell.
Leslie

On 9/29/12, Emilio F Garcia <[log in to unmask]:
Dear Leslie, Harry still maintains his extraordinary memory. The known
distribution of Epitonium championi is from the south coast of Cape Cod.
Massachusetts to Duval Co. NE Florida. The similar species, Epitonium leali,
is known from Puerto Rico to east Florida, west Florida, Louisiana and
Texas. This species is shown in Encyclopedia of Texas Seashells (Tunnell et
al, 2010:193) as E. turritellula (Mörch, 1875).

Dear Leslie,
Do you know the recent (still less than a year old) work by Emilio Garcia on
refining the identity of this nominal taxon? See
<http://shellmuseum.org/shells/shelldetails.cfm?id=65.
I've lost my .pdf (and all else pre- 26 June), but, if I recall correctly,
Epitonium leali Garcia, 2011 replaces E. championi in the Gulf of Mexico.
Harry
Garcia, E.F., 2011. Two new species of Epitonium (Gastropoda: Epitoniidae)
from the western Atlantic. Novapex 12(3-4): 99-107. 10 October.
