Carolyn and all,
I just checked the shell that I have been soaking in %100 Acetone over night and I was able to remove the dried rubber band. I am going to leave it in a little longer to make sure that any/all residue is removed. I think that this would work on tape also. I got the Acetone at a big chain store that starts with Wal....
I think that Paul's suggestion of Toluene would work even faster.
With both be very aware of fumes. Use in a well ventilated area and do not expose to open flame! Boom !
I put the Acetone in a clean sardine can and covered it with Al foil with the shell inside.
The fossil that I got at the show was worth having to remove the rubber band gunk!
Matt
