Hi Michael,
I stayed for a day and a night in Kuwait City in 1999. There's a small beach near Fuddrucker's (if it's still there) where I found lots of micros in the sand (103 species) in three hours of daylight. Bosch et al's Seashells of Eastern Arabia was useful in identifying nearly all of them.
Good luck!
