Marlo,

Problem with Roatan is that it is a Sea Mount and the shore drops fast, thus
few sizable snorkel areas.
The best place to snorkel Roatan was the West End, however, it is a marine
preserve and the Eco-police are vigilant there. Notably, this is where I
found Pterynotus xenos and some yet to be named Marginella's.
There are several snorkelable back reef areas around the island. Many are
in front of resorts such as Coco View and Fantasy Island.
Many of the small north-west side coves are snorklable, but (at least were)
difficult to get to, and you would have to figure out where the preserve
border is.

Lesle

Anyone actually done any off-the-beach snorkeling in Roatan?
Recommendations?  Comparisons to Belize?
Marlo
