Yesterday I found what I believe is an adult Mesodon thyroidus on the top
leaves of an herby plant (no ID) on a deer trail next to a stream a few miles
north of Griffin, GA. Usual size and color, rather thin shell without a
parietal tooth. I put it in my shirt pocket unexamined. At home later it had
a bit of a crack near the aperture, sort of crackled when I picked it up.
Today it seems to be trying to repair it and has dissolved or eaten (?) a hole
in that area. Does this seem right? Does anyone know how they go about making
repairs?
