In the early sixties in northern Minnesota, when the road between Duluth
and Virginia (MN) was a single lane highway and traveled only on special
occasions, a shell store appeared. For most of us this was a marvelous
place, for me it was the first time I had seen a "real" seashell and the
beginning of a fascination. My memory is that the store was a
reddish-brown single story building, with bins/cases of many different
shells. I never knew who the owner was or anything about the shells he
stocked, but it was truly a magical shop for our area. Unfortunately,
the shell store did not stay in business very long.
