Some sort of mosquito or other biting fly lives just about anywhere,
but they are much more common in some regions than others. I haven't
encountered many in Texas but would expect some of the swamps to make
repellent useful.
Although mosquitos can affect shell collecting, more directly
important to mollusks are the flies and other insects that eat snails.
