This summer my daughter and son in-law will be traveling to Hawaii on a
family vacation. They are planning to do some scuba diving and want to
collect live mollusks, if they see any. They have recently been told that
the collection of live mollusks is "illegal" anywhere in Hawaii. Since
there has been discussion of shell collecting in Hawaii on this forum, it
seems unlikely that there is a state-wide live mollusk collecting ban. I
can understand the prohibition of collecting live mollusks in state/national
parks, but not in the entire state. I can understand the need to purchase a
fishing license. Would one of you Hawaiian shell collectors please give me
the correct information about this matter? An internet reference site would
be especially helpful. I have tried to google for this information, but
have not gotten what I need.
Thanks, Ken Piech
