To add to the rare whelk discussion:
I have a 'right handed left handed whelk' so to speak. I purchased
it from a reputable dealer. I showed it to a top highly respected expert
in scientific shell identification and the identification was confirmed.
Not only is it dextral, but also it is large and albinistic (that may b e
due to its large size.). I show it paired with a similarly sized and
traditionally colored sinistral whelk.
If anybody would like to see a photo, please contact me off list.
