Sorry Paul, not true.
 
A species name is always a binomen, and consists of a genus name (starts
with a capital) and the so-called epitheton specificum (lowercase) which is
not synonymous with species name, otherwise (logically)  the concept
"species name" would have two meanings, which is of course incorrect.
