Dear Emilio;-
        No; it will not be a Merry Christmas in Venezuela. The reports of the
tragedy come to us daily. I think that there has not been so great a
disaster since the earth shook in SanFrancisco in 1906---at least in our
hemisphere. Be assured that the United States will do what it can for
the living. It's a thing we do well even though sometimes slow getting
started.
        Christmas will not be pleasant this year. But look to Easter--the time
of re-birth. And our prayers till that time.
