In "Handbook for Shell Collectors" by Webb is a page on pronouncing Latin
words. A good library might have a copy. It was published in the 1950's.
Also in "The American Museum Guide to Shells" by Emerson & Jacobson is a
breakdown or dissection it you will of Latin names; The False Horn Shell,
Battillaria mima Gmelin (possibly lat. batillum a small pan or chafing dish).
The book also has keys to identification (step 1. step 2. etc.) and
freshwater and landshells.
It is interesting to know that the Long Island Shell Club has its
newsletters bound together in a leather book in the basement of the London
Museum of Natural History (correct Mel).
