Dear Christine,
The following paper is mostly about the variation of the patterns on the
shell of C. acuta, but it may be helpful nevertheless. There doesn't appear
to be very many papers written on this species.

Aubertin et al. Natural history & variation of pointed snail, Cochlicella
acuta.
Proc. Zool. Soc. London 1027-1055, 1930.

As for Cernuella virgata, I know from personal experience that its
introduced populations can reach enormous densities. I know one such
population behind a building in Istanbul, Turkey, where one can hardly take
a step without stepping on snails. It is an introduced pest in Australia. So
you may want to look it up in Australian journals.

Good luck.

Aydin
