Thanks for the answers and for the url suggested!
Does anyone know anything about the recent history (5 million years ago to
recent times) of the Suez Canal region?
I knew that some species like Pirenella conica (Blainville, 1826)
(Potamididae) live (or lived?) both in the Mediterranean and Red Sea before
the opening of the Suez Canal (*).
Is this correct?
If so, was there a connection between the two seas or is the relationship
old as the Miocene, when the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean were
communicating?

(*) I found a reference for this:
Hoenselaar H.J. & Dekker H., 1998 - Molluscs of the Great Bitter Lake, Suez
Canal, Egypt, collected by C. Beets in 1950. Basteria, Leiden; 62 (5-6):
197-214 in which Dautzenberg and Issel are cited.
