All this talk about Janthinas reminds me -- On the beach in Portn Aransas
Texas several years ago,
the Man of Wars had washed onto the beach along with the Janthinas. They
were all quite small and you
had to really stoop or get on your knees to find them.
I looked up and here came this lady running toward me. She asked me what
I was looking for. When
I told her "quite seriously" I was finding " little purple seashells",
she started giggling and laughing
and ran back to tell her friend. She either thought I was joking or
crazy. But at least we didn't have any
competition shelling that day.
