Seems to me I read that most of the species there are brackish water forms
because the salinity is too high for fresh water species and too low for
true marine forms. I once had some specimens of an unidentified
Melanopsis(?) species from there. I believe the Caspian Sea was also on a
list of places where zebra mussels (Dreissena) have been introduced.
