Dear Lynn, Mike, etc. following this thread,

Recognising messages from Conch-L is easy: You subscribe to the Digest form
of the list. It tells you on the Conch-L site how to do this. You get only
one (sometimes two) messages per day, the subject line looks like this
Subject: CONCH-L Digest - 2 Jun 2004 to 3 Jun 2004 (#2004-192)
which is easily identifiable

As for spam, aren't you lucky you only receive such that advertises shells
for sale. I've just hit the 100 spams per day average. There is little to
stop it except your good sense of humour and the delete button
