Crepidula fornicata, is based on the word "fornix" in reference to the
arched shell (obligatory shell reference here). We were told in Classics
class that the word fornicate was derived from the word fornix (arch)
because in the olden days it was under the arches of buildings that the
world's oldest profession was practiced.  Happy hollidaze.
