Dear Harry et al.,

Gmelin (1791: 3397-3421) described 123 species of what he called
Cypraea. None was named angelicae. Species 59 (pp. 3411-2) is C. Pyrum,**
which he introduced, along with several others, as new.

Harry (Lee)

Gmelin, J. F., 1791, Systema naturae 13th edition, volume 1, part 6.
pp.3021-3909.

** In the Systema Naturae (including the editions from the pen of
Linnaeus), the use of upper case for the first letter of a species-level
epithet indicated that the word was a noun rather than an adjective (as in
German). Although the convention never caught on, it helps in certain
cases when gender termination is in doubt. That is, in the Systema, a
capitalized species-level nomen is not declined, as a adjective would be,
to agree in gender with its genus (e.g. Cypraea Aurantium, C. Histrio, C.
Annulus - all of Gmelin). HGL
