Hi Doug,

Endemic species of the Cape Verde show no dispersing
larval phase; juveniles hatch directly from attached
egg capsules. Distances between shallow water
environments of the Cape Verde Archipelago and
suitable habitats elsewhere and low gene flow
attributable to lack of a dispersal stage may have
effectively isolated Cape Verde Conus and facilitated
their radiation ....

Regards,
Carlos Afonso

For a better view on this subject tack a look at:
Patterns of Cladogenesis in the Venomous Marine
Gastropod Genus Conus from the Cape Verde Islands by
Cunha et. al., (2005) and Explosive radiation of Cape
Verde Conus, a marine species flock by Duda & Rolan,
(2005).
