Dear friends

As far as I know, recent genetic studies have shown that the conus genus
is monophyletic, so I believe that genus or subgenus have no taxonomic
value, although the mentioned "genus" (i.e asprella, cucullus, cylinder,
etc) migh be useful for organising a collection.
A different story is the occurence of different genus within Conidae (i.e.
Conorbis). Very recently, according to Bouchet and Rocroi 2005, a number
of genus previously included in turridae are now in Conidae. Please
correct me if I am wrong
Warmest regards to all

Manuel Jimenez Tenorio
