Dear Friends,

Just a specification :

Oliva paxillus Reeve, 1850 and
Oliva sandwicensis Pease, 1860 are not more
valid names.
Both are subjective junior synonyms of
Oliva nitidula Duclos, 1835.
Perhaps the "sandwicensis" is at best a
local form. ( Greifeneder & Tursch, 1996).

Kindest regards to all !!

Maurizio.

Tom,

You asked about other sandwich shells. Alison Kay (1979) lists the
following sandwiches:

Acteocina sandwicensis
Cellana sandwicensis
Cerithium sandvichense
Daphnella sandwicensis
Erato sandwicensis
Fusinus sandvicensis
Granula sandwicensis
Mucronalia sandvicensis
Niso sandvicensis
Oliva paxillus sandwicensis
Ostrea sandvicensis
Pedipes sandwicensis
Turbo sandwicensis

I don't know of many delis that can beat that. Now, does anyone know
about any shells named after beer or pretzels?
