Quick work, James. The East New Britain flag is hard to make out, but the
description (way down the page) says that one of the borders is composed of
"traditional shell money". I don't know what they make their wampum from.
It's a pity that no country or state has a bivalve on its flag. (As an
ichnologist, I was intrigued to find one flag with a symbolic pair of
footprints--the Buddha's.)

Interesting to hear that Travancore is Kerala. The truly dedicated
conchologist needs access to a historical atlas!

My next question is: What institutions (companies, universities, etc.) have
shells as part of their logos?
