The International Consortium for Agricultural Systems Applications
(ICASA) announces the release of the Decision Support System for
Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT) version 3.5. DSSAT v3.5 is an upgrade
of the DSSAT v3.0 system released in 1994. DSSAT v3.5 includes new crop
simulation models for sunflower, sugarcane, chickpea, tomato and
pasture. These models were developed in collaboration with scientists
from Argentina, Spain, South Africa and India. The existing crop
simulation models have been improved significantly, especially the
growth and development routines. DSSAT v3.5 includes models for more
than 16 different crops. All models have identical modules for the
simulation of the soil water and nitrogen balances, which is especially
important for crop rotation simulations. Most of the data utility
programs have been improved and enhanced. A new graphics program,
developed by scientists from the University of Georgia, has been added
for display of soil moisture and nitrogen by depth over time. Two new
programs were developed for spatial application of the crop models and
linkage with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The program
AEGIS/WIN provides an interface between the crop simulation models and
ArcView; AEGIS/WIN was developed in collaboration with a scientist at
the University of Munich. The second program allows the user to perform
spatial simulation experiments and analyze the results, including
spatial interpolation of the data using kriging and other techniques.
This program was developed in collaboration with scientists at the
Wageningen Agricultural University.
DSSAT v3.5 has been developed through collaboration between scientists
at the University of Florida, the University of Georgia, University of
Guelph, University of Hawaii, the International Fertilizer Development
Center and other scientists associated with ICASA.
DSSAT v3.5 can be purchased from ICASA at the University of Hawaii. The
cost for new users is $ 495 + shipping. The cost to upgrade for
registered users of DSSAT v2.1 is $ 250 + shipping and for registered
users of DSSAT v3.0 is $ 100 + shipping. Registered users of DSSAT v3.1
will receive a free upgrade. For purchase and upgrade information of
