What are the governing equations for water movement in the soil, both saturated and unsaturated (1-D or 2-D)?

Is it a generalized form of the Darcy law or unsaturated flow (Richards equation)? If not, what are the flow parameters, assumptions, boundary conditions etc.?

Papers on subject?
