Post-doctoral position in modelling of yam growth and development

at the Agropedoclimatic Station, Department of Environment and Agronomy,
National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA, France),
Guadeloupe (French Antilles / West Indies)

Position for a post-doctoral researcher, funded by the National
Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA, France) is open on the modelling
of yam growth and development,. The aim of the project is to develop a
model of yam growth by accounting both for current knowledge on yam or
tuber crops, and for experimental results available on local yam
varieties. The post-doctoral scientist will have to adapt to yam a crop
model used to describe potato growth (e.g. CERES-SUBSTOR) for the
climatic and soil-plant conditions of the humid tropics. This position
will also include field work for the model parameterisation.

We are looking for a scientist with the following qualifications:
experience in crop modelling
knowledge in plant physiology and soil science (an experience on tuber
crops will be an asset but not a requisite)
fluency in French or Spanish and a command of English
willing to work for one year in the tropics

The work will be carried out in the Agropedoclimatic Station of INRA
Guadeloupe (French Antilles), in a multidisciplinary team including
plant physiologists, soil scientists and climatologists experienced in
the modelling of soil-plant-atmosphere processes in the tropics.

The position is funded for one year beginning in November or December
2006. Salary will be about 3,000 euros depending on the qualifications
and the experience of the candidate.

If you are interested in the position, please send your application
including:
a Curriculum Vitae, including list of publications;
a letter describing your skills, research interests and motivation for
applying this position;
Two references will be requested.

Your application or additional information request must be sent by Email
