While we are not using DSSAT code, for system simulation models at APSRU our
standard DOS compiler is F77L3 (Lahey's 32 bit compiler). Don't think you
need an extender. We've used Lahey for about 10 years and always found it to
be much faster than MS-Fortran. It has makefile standards etc. and you can
probably get cheap versions of it in the US. There is a Fortran 90 version
and I think there is a version which makes DLLs. You can try contacting one
