Dear Patty,
The work of F. TITSELAAR [" A revision of the recent European Patellidae,
part 1, The Patellidae of the Azores, Madeira, the Selvagens and the Canary
Islands" in Vita Marina,1998, vol. 45, 3-4,: 21-62] is really the newest
treatment of this family for the mentioned area. This work is very detailed,
competently and reliably and finds certainly a wide consent. No argument was
still brought up to put something in it in question. That is applied also to
the Patella tenuis GMELIN 1791, that TITSELAAR acknowledges in contrast to
CHRISTIAENS as valid species. It is not to be expected either that another
colleague will devote time in foreseeable time to this group in such detail
once again.
To be reminded on F. TITSELAAR "Erratum, A revision of the European
Patellidae, part 1" in Vita Marina, 2001, vol. 47(4):174 with hints on some
misprints, that however which involves the systematic considerations is not
so grave.
Unfortunately the planned part 2 of this revision doesn't take place because
Vita Marina has put in their publication.
Sincerely,
Gert Lindner, Germany
