Seafood eaters,
Now I'm wondering if anyone knows whether any mollusks have high Omega 3
essential fatty acid content--cold water fish do. Maybe Harry Lee knows
about this.
Some on the list may not be familiar with the current dietary thinking about
fat intake. It's actually necessary to have fat intake and most US diets
have too much Omega 6 fatty acid and insufficient Omega 3. Last year, there
were 3 major studies showing whopping cardiovascular effects of daily fish
oil consumption: over 40% drop in sudden death or myocardial infarction. One
study was 98,000 nurses; another was 22,000 doctors. These were studies
published in NEJM and JAMA, for instance.
Fish oil also has antioxidant, anti-depressant, and anti-arthritic effects
(I experienced the last effect without knowing about it ahead of time). And
it's cheap.
Now if only we can make such claims for mollusks.
