Corbicula spp. (identification is problematic; they are hybrids, confounding the issue, and two major lineages occur in the southwestern U.S.) have hinges with distinct teeth, a non-pearly shell, and strong concentric sculpture of the shell. Older shells tend to have a brown periostracum, but this might be gone from sun-baked specimens.
The only unionoid that I know of reported for southern California is Arnoldia dejecta, which is possibly extinct. It lacks hinge teeth.
