A statute league is 4.82803 km or 3 statute mi.
A nautical league is 5.55955 km or 3 nautical mi.
Obviously a measure of distance. A nmi=1.17 mi.
(and a knot is one nmi/hr)

Twenty thousand leagues under the sea meant a submerged trip of 60,000
