When we clean our cassis, if I have to soak it in water to get out the last
bit, I smear the shield as well as much of the aperture with petroleum jelly
to help protect it from any acid. Also I like to put water only in the
aperture and then position it aperture up with the help of towels or
whatever. Change the water daily, use hose as Peggy suggests, and/or shake
vigorously to loosen the last bit.
Hope this helps.
