Prior to Santa Monica, it washed ashore in Cantabria, Spain http://strangesounds.org/2013/10/mysterious-giant-squid-discovered-on-spains-beach-is-it-architeuthis-dux.html http://www.livescience.com/40180-giant-squid-washes-ashore-on-spanish-beach.html on October 1 but was only 30 feet long then (not 160 feet). I must have grown since then... and strange how they seem to wash ashore in exactly the same position...
