Acroloxidae (the fresh water limpets) is the only family in the superfamily
Acroloxoidea. The family includes one genus, Acroloxus Beck, 1837.
According to Vaught's Classification of the Living Mollusca, that one valid
genus name has several synonyms, namely:
Ancylus Geoffrey, 1767
Velletia Gray, 1840
Acroxus Bourguignet, 1853
Calytra Westerlund, 1885
Helicon Westerlund, 1885
According to the same source, the Acroloxoidea are in the order
Basommatophora.
They are more closely related to the Siphonariidae than to the true limpets.
