Fabio,
When I was editing The Mollusks: A Guide to Their Study, Collection, and
Preservation, I used the form 'seashell(s)' in the text portion. This was
the style that I chose for the book and which I asked contributors to use.
A search of the book shows both uses in cited references. The most common
usage worldwide was 'seashell', and this was the more common usage in
books published in the USA as well.
