I found this post by David Lum
Conch-Lers,
Beware of a person calling himself (or herself) "Syamsir Tjapa"
who's trying to sell shells through spammed e-mailed listings. In a
list I received today, he included a photo of a Cypraea alexhuberti that
he claimed he had on hand. The photo was blurry but I'm sure that it
was intentionally made unclear so as not to show too many details.
Anyways, I was suspicious, so I did a web search for alexhuberti photos.
Lo and behold, I found the original images, which were nice and crisp
ones taken by Lorenz. It's not the first time I've seen this done . . .
after losing some money to such a trick before I figured that I should
pass the lesson along.
Take care and be aware.
Best regards,
Dave
He tried to sell me a couple Cypraea alexhuberti. He sent a very lousy image "adjusted" by Photoshop
(he cloned one specimen into two shells, it is clearly visible...)
Yeah, I was born yesterday!
His e-mail is ([log in to unmask] )
