Separating Pyrgocythara hemphilli and Stellatoma stellata has driven me a
little mad. So, recently when confronted with identifying another similar
shell (Pyrgocythara filosa) I decided to concentrate. The result is a
comparison of the three and the conclusion that too many of my shells had
been misidentified and these names mixed. I've concluded that both P.
hemphilli and P. filosa are rather uncommon and I'd previously identified
too many S. stellata as P. hemphilli. I would like to hear about collecting
locations for P. hemphilli and P. filosa collected in Florida and of which
you are confident in their identifications. For comparison see:
