Go to the original references. That's how you find out whether your
source has done the work of checking things carefully (as Dick does)
or not (e.g., Hubendick, 1951 misrepresenting some of the original
descriptions of genera to promote his idea that all lymnaeids belong
in one genus, not to mention typos, well-intended but illegal
emendations, etc). Of course, you'll also discover overlooked names,
misclassifications, references to other taxa that you are working on
in another project, etc. It's a great way to add years and pages to
your papers.
