John,
At least for now I am keeping the two families separate. Some of the
scientific community have adopted this change and others have not.
Schileyko (1999), which obviously precedes Bouchet & Rocroi has
Orthalicids and Bulimulids separate. Schileyko's "Treatise on Recent
Terrestrial Pulmonate Molluscs" is based on anatomical studies. I'm
not sure how Bouchet & Rocroi came to make determinations on changes
at the family level.
Typically I am not quick to make changes without solid reasoning or
explanation. DNA sequencing seems to be the new favored method for
determining taxonomy on the genus and family level.
My vote is still pending on Bulimulidae vs Orthalicidae, subfam. Bulimulinae
Rich
