Dear Aydin,
It will be interesting to see what kind of refinement has been
achieved in answering this question now that we've plunged into the
electronic era.
Over a decade ago, this forum dealt with essentially the same
question, e.g.,
<http://www.listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0207D&L=conch-l&P=R2303>.
Certainly (1) the number of extant valid nominal species will be more
refined than of extant species, and (2) Estimates of extant
shell-less mollusks will be easier to gather and refine than of
testaceous ones.
