Well the list and all the supporting computers seem to have survived the
Y2K bugs - all but the Conch-l list archiving program that makes the web
archive pages that is. It stopped working on Jan 1 2000. While your
waiting for me to fix the archiving program - it seems like a good time to
reflect back on the list.

March 11 1996 the Conch-L list was created.
Apr 6 1996 Conch-L celebrated its' 100th subscriber.
At that time there were subscribers from 18 countries.
The list averaged 4 messages per day.
Jul 1 1996 Conch-Net the official web site of COA opened:

By Oct 29 1996 there were 202 subscribers from 25 countries.
720 messages have been posted to the list.
The list averaged 5.6 messages per day.
On Jan 28 1997 a web version of the list's guidelines were posted:

By Feb 13 1997 there were 267 subscribers from 27 countries.
1858 messages have been posted to the list.
The list averaged 13.5 messages per day.
~100% of the list members were posting.
15 subscribers posted 41.76% of the total messages.
On Apr 24 1997 we celebrated our 300th subscriber
2724 messages have been posted to the list.
At that time there were subscribers from 28+ countries.
The average posts per day were up to15.5
(subscribers may be counted as being from a country they do not live in
because of their internet service provider's address (i.e. they are
counted
as being from the USA if their email address ends in NET, COM or
MIL).
During the July COA 1997 convention at Captiva FL Conch-L
subscribers held their first
annual real-time gathering.
On Sept 2 1997 the number of messages per day first reached 50 the
list limit.
(the per day limit was later set higher)
By Feb 17 1998 there were 340 subscribers from 34+ countries
Since the beginning of the list (708 days) 7695 posts have
been made.
The list averaged 33.7 messages per day.
537 subscribers have posted to the list.
35 subscribers posted a total of 3555 messages, 46.20%.
Feb 1999 has the record number of posts.
943 messages total, averaging 33.7 messages per day.
On Mar 28 1999 Conch-l celebrated its 3rd year
15930 messages have been posted to the list.
On May 31 1999 UGA upgraded the listserv software and hardware
