As far as I've ever noticed, all the names of Greek origin are latinized in
taxonomic use.
The quote you included at the end was. I believe, from the experimental
physicist Percy Bridgman. The slaying of a beautiful theory by an ugly fact
is a sight enjoyed by all experimental physicists.  Sure, it means the
theorists will have to work harder, but that's their problem.
