Dear Colleagues,
I am a new comer to this list, and I am sorry to begin
my postings with a material request.
In my Ph. D. thesis I am studying the phylogeny of
Marginellidae through anatomical characters. And there
are several taxa that I have not yet studied and I
need preserved specimens of. Before you offer your
specimens I must explain that in order to extract the
soft parts I must destroy the shells. I learnt the
hard way that the columellar plaits of the
Marginellidae make it almost impossible to extract the
animal without destroying the shell. In fact in most
cases I have to disolve the columella.
Here is the "Most Wanted" list:
Marginella glabella
Eratoidea margarita
any Glabella (african Atlantic and Indic)
any Indo-Pacific Dentimargo, Marginella or
Volvarinella
any Belanetta (Indo-Pacific)
any Cryptospira (Indo-Pacific)
any Closia (Indo-Pacific)
Rivomarginella morrisoni (Thailand)
or R. electrum (Borneo)
Afrivoluta pringlei (hard to come by!)
Marginellona gigas (even harder!!)
Thank you all.
Sincerely,
Paulino
p.s. If you want more details on my project, I'll be
happy to answer any questions.
