The easiest way to tell the age of some cold-water molluscs is just to count the
rings - like a tree!! This is especially true of Placopecten magellanicus
Gmelin, which in my experience, always has neat, easy-to-count rings, so you can
see how much it grew each year.
Of course this only works in places where there actually ARE seasons - Florida
molluscs have it easy all year round (except during the Dredging Season, ie!).
No forest fires up here these days,
